Inspired by Tanho, the most iconic piece of the Bunho technique, Assento is a hybrid between a sitting stool and a side table. The bulrush spiral extends into a metal arc that embraces the wheel into the metal structure. The low seat’s organic shape represents a release from the spiraling motion of the wheel.

Macheia
MACHEIA is a material-driven design studio founded in 2020 by Italian- German designer Lucrezia Papillo and Mozambican-Portuguese architect Iany Gayo.
Based in Lisbon, the duo explores innovative ways to materialize objects and spaces that capture stories, ecosystems, and the interplay between design and nature. Their practice combines thorough local, social, and cultural research with a focus on natural fibers, ancient techniques, and sustainable craft traditions, producing storytelling objects, performative installations, and private commissions. MACHEIA’s work often introduces contrast, friction, or surprise, challenging perceptions of what is natural, handmade, or crafted. Their material explorations have expanded to include biomaterials from the sea, and their work has been showcased at MAC/CCB, Homo Faber, and international design weeks.
