Habitacion 116
The Mexican architectural and interior design firm HABITACIÓN 116, founded in 2002 by architects Rafael Rivera and Javier Claverie, emphasizes the importance of collective work and a design community,
where the result of its labor derives from the creative impulse of a multidisciplinary team. Thus, designers, architects, craftsmen, among other professionals and tradesmen, are closely involved in the design and manufacturing process of each space and product. HABITACIÓN 116 creates interior spaces and utilitarian furniture with a design principle focused on the preservation of a clear “Mexican” identity. This is accomplished by reinterpreting conventional customs and ideas that are part of Mexico’s cultural legacy and by experimenting with traditional techniques and ancestral artisanal processes.
