LAVA DINING CHAIR

PRICE UPON REQUEST

In collaboration with Unno Gallery

51x51x82 cm

Pigmented Mexican tropical wood and paper cord.

Based on the emblematic chair originally developed for the Rocasal project, the LAVA version acquires more volume by experimenting with the materials it’s composed of and it is stained in colors that emulate the different types of volcanic rock. The LAVA collection is directly inspired by the popular Mexican chair of mestizo origin which is painted in bright colours and has a seat in woven tule, characteristic of the vernacular furniture from the State of Mexico, in particular the region of Toluca and Tenancingo, where the men commonly carve and assemble the wooden structure and the women weave and give it its coloured finish.

Habitacion-116_Artista

The Mexican architectural and interior design firm HABITACIÓN 116, founded in 2002 by architects Rafael Rivera and Javier Claverie, emphasizes the importance of collective work and a design community,

where the result of its labor derives from the creative impulse of a multidisciplinary team. Thus, designers, architects, craftsmen, among other professionals and tradesmen, are closely involved in the design and manufacturing process of each space and product. HABITACIÓN 116 creates interior spaces and utilitarian furniture with a design principle focused on the preservation of a clear “Mexican” identity. This is accomplished by reinterpreting conventional customs and ideas that are part of Mexico’s cultural legacy and by experimenting with traditional techniques and ancestral artisanal processes.
